This recital will be the first public outlet of a
new project between two musicians, exploring the
timbral and textural extensions of their acoustic
instruments by electronic means, in a freely
improvised setting.

Norman Adams
Canadian cellist, Norman Adams is Principal
Cellist of Symphony Nova Scotia, and an
improviser and electronic musician eager to
explore many different styles of music, sound
creation and performance. Norman has been a
featured soloist with SNS, and Les Jeunes
Virtuoses de Montréal and has performed chamber,
and improvised music throughout the US and
Canada. His performances have also been heard
across the country on CBC Radio One and Two.
Since 2000 Norman has been the Artistic Director
of suddenlyLISTEN Music, producing concerts of
strange and exciting music, both for soloist, and
with a broad range of collaborators. Over the
past ten seasons Norman has collaborated
extensively as a performer, improviser and
composer with Halifax dancer/choreographer Gwen
Noah. Together they have performed over fifty
concerts around Nova Scotia, and in several tours
across Canada.
Norman has collaborated with composer/performers
Barry Guy, David Mott, improvisers Ladonna Smith,
Pauline Oliveros, Peggy Lee, Rufus Cappadocia,
and Lee Pui Ming. In October 2005 Norman
performed in, and created electronic music for
Unplugged, Susan Cook's choreography for dancer
and cyclists.
In 2006/2007, Norman will be featured as soloist
with Symphony Nova Scotia, perform a concert of
the music of Morton Feldman, play chamber
concerts with the Talisman Ensemble, perform a
new work with Gwen Noah Dance entitled The Secret
Show; suddenlyLISTEN will present concert
collaborations with artists including Jerry
Granelli, Sebastian Lexer and others.
Sebastian Lexer
After moving to London in 1995, Sebastian
completed his studies in 2001 with an MMus in
Performance and Related Studies at Goldsmiths
College, University of London. During this time
he had been studying composition with Roger
Redgate and piano with John Tilbury. In 2003 he
has commenced his studies with a PhD thesis on
Live Electronics in Live Performance.
Over the last five years a growing interest in
the application of electronic elements in
performance settings and free improvisation has
inspired a focus on the development of
interactive music systems. The developments been
frequently applied in live performances in
various ensembles and collaborations with John
Tilbury, Eddie Prevost, Roger Redgate, Michael
Parsons, Jonathan Impett and many other musicians
from the international improvising scene. He
organises the acclaimed concert series INTERLACE
at Goldsmiths College presenting free
improvisation, electronics and interactive
compositions. Freelance software development
projects have included projects for Emmanuelle
Waeckerle (VINST) and Roger Redgate.
Sebastian is currently working as a Visiting
Tutor at Trinity College of Music, Goldsmiths
College, Thames Valley University, Brighton
University and teaches summer and weekend courses
of Max/MSP at Goldsmiths College.
