Two vacancies within the Review of Long-Term Disability Supports Project
Team within the Office are being advertised. One is for a Project
Advisor, and the other is for a Senior Analyst.
The Office is looking for people who are interested in the possibility
of secondment (or a fixed-term contract) - the period would be for 12
months starting 30 June 2006 (although an earlier start could be possible).
Applications for either of these positions should be made via the
Ministery of Social Development web site (see below). The closing date
is 5 May 2006.

The Office for Disability Issues was established within the Ministry of
Social Development on 1 July 2002. The key functions of the Office for
Disability Issues are to act as the lead agency for the New Zealand
Disability Strategy, provide ministerial servicing and provide policy
advice on disability issues, including being the lead agency for
strategic and cross-sectoral disability policy. You can find further

The Project Advisor will be a member of the project team leading the
inter-agency Review of Long-Term Disability Supports. They will provide
high quality secretariat and communications support to the project as
well as working with the project's senior analysts to formulate policy
in this area. Duties will include preparing presentations, taking
minutes, scheduling meetings, and liaising with other agencies involved
with the review. Previous experience in these areas will be advantageous.
The applicant should be passionate about social issues, enjoy working in
a small team, show initiative and flexibility and be self driven.
Experience working within the government sector is desirable.
Knowledge/experience in the disability sector would be an advantage. The
position may suit someone who is interested in gaining experience within
the policy area.

The Senior Analyst will be a member of the project team leading the
inter-agency Review of Long-Term Disability Supports. This is a
cross-agency exercise to align the delivery of supports to disabled
people with the objectives of the New Zealand Disability Strategy. As a
member of this team you will be expected to take a leadership role with
agencies involved in the review to work through challenging policy
issues on the way to developing options for reform.
The right candidates will have a relevant qualification in public
policy, economics, law or similar. It is also expected that at this
level you will have a good working understanding of the machinery of
government and have produced high level documentation such as briefing
or cabinet papers. You will also be able to build effective and
productive relationships across government and the disability sector.
Knowledge of disability issues essential.
