Dear all,
With apologies for cross postings...
Postcolonial Economies: an ESRC funded seminar series
Second seminar 22 May 2006, Department of Geography, University of
Durham, UK
We would like to announce the second in a series of seminars on
Postcolonial Economies. The seminar series is bringing together a range
of social science researchers to explore some of the challenges and
possibilities of using postcolonial approaches to think about
contemporary economies. For details of the entire series, visit the
website at:
http://www.ncl.ac.uk/geps/research/geography/pcseminars/
The second seminar focuses Genealogies and Geographies of Economic
Knowledges and will feature presentations from Professor Wendy Larner
(Geography, Bristol, UK), Professor Olivia Harris (Anthropology, LSE,
UK) and Professor Dipesh Chakrabarty, (History and South Asian Languages
and Civilizations, Chicago, USA).
Participation in this seminar series is open and we are keen to engage
as many people as possible. However, attendance is limited and we hope
that a core of people will attend a majority of the seminars. Travel
costs for up to 4 postgraduate participants will be covered. To ensure
access to this financial support and a place at the seminar, please
email Cheryl McEwan ([log in to unmask]) as soon as possible.
Alongside the seminars, our website:
http://www.ncl.ac.uk/geps/research/geography/pcseminars/
will allow for 'virtual' participation in the series. Through the
website, we hope to engage with others with related but more distant
interests and with those working outside the UK on similar issues. The
website will include details of the seminars and copies of the papers
and will be linked to an email discussion list postcolonialeconomies.
Please feel free to browse and join.
