Hi all,

anybody could help me with some PHP programming to get
graphs and statistics in real time in Moodle? I am
conducting a pilot study on evaluation tools. Sending
you the call if you would like to participate, it is
not ready yet, almost ready, I have problems I cant
solve on my own. good in ideas, very poor in
programming with ideas on how to implement them with
programming...

these are the problems and you can either reply me in
person or in the forum on teh front page>

you need to login first to see them..

TASK 1: #1,3,4 are reports. the user clicks the radios
and when he clicks results he gets (a) graphs and (b)
reports on html than can be open in excel. (this hasnt
finsihed yet)

TASK 2: #2 before the submit button there should be
links
for 3 graphs>

these come from here>
http://e-mmersion.net/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=13

questionnaire and a script gets the results from the
graphs to be on html that can open in excel. the first

INFORMATION SHEET FOR PARTICIPATION IN ONLINE LEARNING
RESEARCH STUDY

(The registration in the environment is this week. You
will get the enrolment key after your registration,
depending on your status –Greek teacher or
researcher/developer-. The study will last about 10
days. During this time you can enter in the
environment whenever you have time.)

Dear colleague,

My name is Niki Lampropoulou and I am a teacher. I
belong to the Greek Education Office of Patras,
Greece. I am conducting my PhD research at the Centre
of Interactive Systems Engineering, London South Bank
University on the subject of ¡Tools and Evaluation
Methods for Online Learning Communities¢. This study
is about the development of tools and evaluation
techniques for Analysis, Design, Evaluation, Use and
Sustainability (ADEUS) of the environment in online
learning communities. It is an evaluation study of new
tools in Moodle for the Greek Schools Network (GSN),
under the supervision of Dr Xristine Faulkner,
Professor Fintan Culwin and Mr Mike Parker.

I invite you to participate in my investigation
because of your special interest in online learning.
In order to help you to understand what the
investigation is about, I am providing you with the
following information. Please make sure you understand
it before you formally agree to participate. Ask any
questions you have about the information which
follows. I will do my best to explain and to provide
any further information you require.

It is the first time that tools and evaluation
techniques, targeted at participation in online
communities, are implemented in a large scale using
the Moodle Open Source online learning management
system. If the investigation is successful the tools
will have the potential to be used in Moodle, as
Moodle is used world wide (9,358 sites from 148
countries). The tools aim to increase participation in
online learning activities anchored in collaborative
discussions for problem solving. They were developed
based on participants¢ suggestions on 3 previous
studies as well as on socio-cultural learning and
socio-technical design, both part of Human-Computer
Interaction in Education.

The questionnaire and the interviews (if needed to
clarify vague issues in your answers) are to gather
information on teachers¢ participation when they work
collaboratively in problem solving activities. The
questionnaire seeks information on the management of
online learning communities as well as about the
participation processes. Your contribution in this
research is valuable. The benefits for you as a
participant in the study:

•	Experience on adaptation in online
international collaboration and networking via on-line
dialogue.
•	Experience on building a virtual professional
profile and professional relationships.
•	Participation in an Online Community of
Practice.
•	Soft Skills Development: Soft skills are
social/personal skills and are transferable to other
environments. Soft skills using advanced technology in
an online community are related to:
o	Online Written Communication Skills
o	Information Technology / Technical skills (use of
communication and collaboration technologies e.g.
collaborative writing and annotation tools)
o	Working with others
o	Transversal skills (e.g. organisational skills such
as problem solving, communication skills,
meta-competences, learning how to learn, motivating
other users, knowledge management etc)
	Problem Solving (coming up with good ideas,
planning and organising things, finding solutions to
problems).
•	Suggested changes can be integrated in Moodle
Open Source.
•	Suggested changes can be integrated in the
Greek National School Network.
•	Best practices can be disseminated in the
wider communities of teachers, developers, project
leaders and the academic community.

The practical implementation of the above skills is
connected to the following activities:
•	Creation, development, distribution, discovery
and use of resources of knowledge, activities and
processes of learning from the individual, the team or
the organisation.
•	Development, use, control and maintenance of
situated conditions.
•	Evaluation of faculties at a micro and macro
level.
•	Knowledge for registration, use and
distribution of personal details for individuals as
well as the community.
•	Creation of suitable resources of learning
adapted in the needs of learners/users.
•	Support of learners/users in order to it build
the particular competencies.
•	Support for the learners/users in the learning
process for innovative achievements.

This study will enable you to see new research tools
and techniques on an online learning environment. Your
contribution and help will help to improve the system
and in time benefit the wider community. The results
will be useful for the Greek teachers¢ community and
the developers of such learning systems, not only
Moodle developers¢ community. If you have questions or
you need more information about the study please do
not hesitate to contact me prior to the investigation.
The tasks for the study are:

(a)	Web Design Pool: If you are a Greek teacher, you
are encouraged to discuss problems on web design while
using the new ADEUS tools. You or one of your
co-participants will have to add the final definitions
in the Glossary provided, reaching consensus decision
making. When in Registration, please type ¡Greek
Ministry of Education¢ as the Affiliation is required.
You are free to work on either Greek or English,
however, we would appreciate it if you could use the
English language to have a common language reference.
(b)	Focus Group Discussion Pool: If you are an Open
Source Developer, you are encouraged to use and
evaluate the new applications in Moodle. Your
evaluation and assessment will determine further
application changes.

Data and information from your discussions and the
tools might be used for reports and publications, only
for research purposes. However, this data will be used
anonymously. Your email will NOT be given or used for
any other purpose than the research study to keep
everyone¢s privacy safe. The information that will be
given is confidential and will be used only for the
aims of the particular research. I will be responsible
for the data. Only myself and my supervisors will have
access to data. The results and conclusions of the
study will be available to you personally and the
community on completion. The final report will be
distributed to the involving communities with the
conclusions of the study. Your help can be
acknowledged if you wish.

This investigation has been approved by the London
South Bank University Research Ethics Committee for
the period of the investigation (until 07 April 2006).
You can access the research pool in your own
convenience any time you want for the duration of the
study. You do not have to participate in this study
and may withdraw from the study at any time without
giving a reason for withdrawing.

For more information and the location to give your
consent to participate in the study and create a new
account, please visit http://e-mmersion.net/index.php.

Thank you very much indeed.
