Participatory video seems to work a treat. I have a colleague who makes a
living from it in Herefordshire and Gloucestershire, and while it's not quite
got to the point that he's turning work away, he's starting to think of scaling
back or getting help, because he's so busy (lots of repeat work). The main
benefits seem to be that it taps into a dominant cultural form, and that most
teenagers have an idea of what a film is like. So when they learn how to make
one it's exciting and there're all sorts of opportunities for collaborative
learning during discussions on scripting, editing and shooting.
