Dear colleagues,
we are currently embarking on the first-ever multi-locus molecular
phylogeny of hexactinellid sponges, a project in collaboration with
Dorte Janussen (Frankfurt) and Joachim Reitner (Göttingen), funded by
the DFG (German Research Foundation), in which we aim to integrate
molecular data with morphology and fossil record.
While we do already have a quite good taxonomic coverage, we
appreciate your assistance in obtaining additional (preferably) fresh
samples, since, as you well know, most of those critters are
difficult to obtain.
Ideally, we would like to have samples for DNA and/or RNA extraction
(preserved in Ethanol, DMSO, or RNALater, respectively) accompanied
with a voucher for morphological identification.
If required, we can send vials and reagents, and cover shipping costs.
If you are able to help, please contact Martin Dohrmann (mdohrma1@uni-
goettingen.de), the PhD student working on this project, directly.
With our best regards, and looking forward to meeting (hopefully)
most of you in Buzios soon!
Gert
