Hello,
AFAIK some of the F60ies and a 'smaller brother' are still in operation in
the Lausitz area.
active ones are at:
- Jänschwalde
- Nochten
- Welzow Nord
- Cottbus (a smaller bridge type F34)
abandoned:
- Lichterfelde (museum)
- Reichwalde (future museum?)
You will find photographs at:

Which excavator is the 'largest' is debatable.
The F60 consists of a huge moveable bridge 'fed' by
several bucket-chain excavators (usually 2-3).
Each of the bucket-chain excavators is certainly smaller,
than the wheel excavators used in the Rhine area.
However, the overall size and weight of the bridge exceeds
that of the 'wheelers'.
Overburden transporter bridges were also known in the Rhine area.
A variant of todays bridges was a cable based one (a bit like
a Blondin type cableway.)
If I remember correctly, this technology has been in use in the
1920ies.
Fascinating topic!
Greetings Harald
