Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor of Religion
The Department of Religion at Oberlin College invites applications for
a full-time non-continuing faculty position in the College of Arts and
Sciences. Appointment to this position will be for a term of two
semesters, beginning first semester of 2006-2007, and will carry the
rank of Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor
The incumbent will teach courses in the general area of New Testament
Literature and Early/Medieval Christian History. The teaching load is
five courses per year. The successful applicant will teach courses in
areas of early Christian Scriptures in their Greco-Roman context and
early Christian History through the Middle Ages. She or he will teach
an introduction to the New Testament course, a course in
early/medieval Christian history, an Introduction to Religion course,
and a mid-level course plus an advanced seminar in the applicant’s
area of expertise. She or he will also be expected to participate in
the full range of faculty responsibilities appropriate to the position.
Among the qualifications required for appointment is the ABD or Ph.D.
degree in hand. Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential
excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience
at the college level is desirable.
The Department of Religion is a ten-person department with
approximately 25 majors in each graduating class. Courses and faculty
research areas span eastern and western traditions, from the ancient
world through contemporary issues and topics. Further information is
