italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Dear all
I attach the catalogue (in four parts) of the collection of Carlo Alberto Chiesa, a well-known and respected Milanese antiquarian bookseller who died recently. The collection consists of over 12000 items in toto, and has been valued at 350000 euros; it was offered to the library at Warwick, but since we already have copies of the majority of the books described, we have concluded that it is not for us. Chiesa's widow is hoping to sell the collection in its entirety to a library with a serious research interest in Italian studies, and is prepared to consider dividing the library into parts and selling them to different institutions only if the offer of the whole collection is unsuccessful.
The range of subjects is very wide: its strengths are in Italian and other bibliography, literature, art and history, but also in history of science and medicine and numerous other subject areas. The collection also includes a large number of auction and sale catalogues and numerous offprints on subjects related to those of the monographs.
If you are interested in making enquiries about the collection, please let me know, and I will pass Signora Chiesa's address on to you.
Best wishes
William Pine-Coffin
