Dear All,
Archaeological opportunities don't come any better *.
With over 19,000 entries in the County HER, 880 scheduled areas, some 35 historic parks and gardens and 5 battlefields, North Yorkshire is an ideal place to practice archaeology. The Heritage Section of the Planning & Countryside Unit works to conserve and enhance this unique historic environment by monitoring over 11,000 planning applications and thousands of other schemes every year. We are now seeking to second or recruit an assistant archaeologist for a period of about 8 months to cover for maternity leave.

Scale 5/6 (£18,450 to £22,293) pro rata
You will be responsible for supporting the development control work of the Archaeology team. Your work will include processing of application details, digital entry and checking of planning information, and making contact with developers and planning officers to expedite casework. In addition, you will be required to prepare statistical summaries of planning casework, provide development control advice in consultation with the Senior Archaeologist, and assist with other day-to-day work of the Archaeology team.
To succeed, you must be a professional archaeologist with experience of practical archaeology within a planning archaeology environment. An enthusiastic approach and an ability to deal with a heavy workload in a disciplined manner are also essential requirements.
