Subject: Charging for SMR/HER Searches
Dear All,
And you shouldn't be charging VAT. Customs & Excise long ago (1993?)
declared all local authority search fees are "non business" for VAT
purposes. Also, as the information is provided by a monopoly supplier, it's
not VATable.
cheers,
Neil Campling

Dear Emma,
Here in Winchester we charge £35.00 + VAT per hour (min 1 hour, then charge
for every additional 1/2 hour pro rata) + 20 pence per sheet for printing /
copying costs.
Similar to others who have responded, we charge all commercial contractors
and would charge consultants working for government organisations/ statutory
undertakers etc. Again similar to others, where the project had a community
/ educational aspect we would waive the charges.

Dear all,
We have been having some difficulty with a particular company about paying
for HER/SMR searches. We would like to know what other peoples policies are
on charging for a search. We charge commercial companies £40 plus VAT for a
standard search. Does everyone else charge? Who do you charge? Just
archaeological contractors? What about government bodies like The
Environment Agency? Do you charge water companies like Severn Trent? If you
don't charge companies like Severn Trent, do you charge consultancy
companies working on behalf of them, as they are commercial?
