Thanks to everyone who replied to my question about charging for HER
searches. I shan't give out the name of the company which started this
question off in the first place, but it was a commercial consultancy (not
archaeological) working for a public utilities company. They felt that it
was completely unfair to be charged for a search as they were working for a
public utilities company, even though they were charging the company lots of
money to do an assessment. Not to mention the fact that public utilities
are no longer government run, but commercial companies making millions in
profit themselves. We figure that they can afford £40. We charge public
utilities for searches and anyone working for them.
We wanted to see what other SMR/HERs policies were on charging, as this
particular company insisted that no one else charged them. It seems that
there is no set policy and charges seem to vary between £25 and £60. Several
of the responses that I got weren't posted on the forum, but sent directly
to me so I thought that I'd sum up what people had said. Generally about 50%
of SMRs that responded seem to be charging public utilities and about 50%
don't. I think that out of everyone who responded, no one charges government
agencies like the Environment Agency, at least I can't remember anyone
saying that they did. Perhaps we should have a national policy on whether we
charge these companies or not???
Regards,
Emma Hancox
