These are three true stories I heard this weekend before I left Bridlington
to move into any B&B, back in Beverley, in the East Riding of Yorkshire....
The first is a story of an older amputee disabled gentleman who when he goes
in certain pubs and clubs that he is asked to cover up is legs. This
gentleman has had is legs amputated from his knees. He told me their worst
culprits for this 'ignorance' and disability discrimination are at the Royal
Bristish Legion in Bridlington, yes, the Royal British Legion, where they
have hundreds of 'ex' disabled servicemen/women.
My second story is about an assistant cook working is a older people's
residential home in Bridlington and he was sacked, because he refused to
give out the 'medication/drugs' to the residents, in which can only be
carried out by a trained state registered nurse. I have heard similiar
stories like this in other 'institutions' whe untrained staff have been told
to dish out the chemical coshes!!
My third story is about a young man who experiences living with mental
distress who was stuck in a mental health/learning disabilities residential
unit and the 'owners' of this unit, he stated had no intentions of teaching
him, or anone else independent living skills, because it would not be in
'the-owners' best 'economic' interests to empower disabled people with these
independent living skills.
He said, and I agreed that this is a tip of the 'iceberg', which all of us
within the disabled, inclusive, survivors, neurodiversity and independent
living movements can see that the 'iceberg' is 'bigger' beneath the water
and 'we' only see a partial of the 'institionalised' and 'disablist'
attitudes and behaviour that are the 'reality' for us all.
If the 'iceberg' was tipped over, then we would all then 'witness'
'the-truth' of what's really happeing within all these 'institutions' and
they have no 'will' and desire' to enable all disabled/neurodiverse people
with independent living skills, due to the old 'economic' personal
'interests'.
What do you all think of these stories then? is this par for the cause in
the UK and acrossthe globe then?
Have you got any similiar stories to tell and 'whistle-blow'??
Yours
Colin R
