One downside of Dragon is that it may not work well for people who have unclear speech, or
speech
impediments such as stuttering/cluttering. My partner has tried several VR packages (all of
the ones
commercially available for the Macintosh anyway) and although Dragon was the best, he said,
he still had to do
a heck of a lot of editing when the files were done. In the end, he has found it easier and
quicker to work with a
scribe (i.e., getting me to do the typing <grin>) because it couldn't sort out his cluttering.
You also can't share a package that's been "trained"--it only works with your voice, accent
etc.
Speaking of which, I have also had students with strong regional accents and dialects who
have had a heck of a
time with Dragon. It definitely does not understand our local Mackem dialect! But then,
neither do I most of the
time...
