The UK Government's attacks on benefits in general and on Incapacity Benefit
in particular, coupled with its bullying of claimants, will do nothing to
address poverty in the Disabled Community. The Disabled Peoples' Direct
Action Network (DAN) has called a lobby of the Surgery of Margaret Hodge, MP
for Barking and Dagenham.
Hodge is one of New Labour's leading lights and is being put up by the
Government to justify its attacks on our community. The lobby will start at
4.00pm on Friday 28th April. It has been called to coincide with Hodges
regular surgery. Disabled People who live in her constituency will be
requesting a meeting with her then and there and asking her to explain where
the 1 million jobs are going to come from which New labour says it is going
to force people into who are currently on Incapacity Benefit. WE also want
to know why the Government isn't tackling discrimination in employment
against Disabled People, paying decent levels of benefit, removing barriers
to equality, ensuring consistent treatment and improved funding for Access
To work, if they are really concerned about unemployment and
under-employment amongst Disabled People rather than attacking those who
suffer discrimination , social exclusion and poverty as a result of
disability discrimination.
The leaflet to be handed out on the lobby will soon be in circulation along
with full details of where to find Hodge's surgery. Other DAN
entertainment, stunts and more are planned for the day. Please put it in
your diary, come along and get other people you know to do likewise. If you
can help with any aspect of this activity - on the ground, in advance,
practically, financially, from a distance or directly, copying, writing,
preparing other materials, contributing to stunts and more on the day,
please get in touch with me on [log in to unmask]
