Two fully-funded ESRC PhD studentships
(for +3 or a 1+3 study) available for a 2006 start.
We are very pleased to be able to advertise 2 ESRC quota funded studentships in addition to the two fully funded studentships already announced. (Applications already received will be considered for the above as appropriate).
The Geography Discipline at the Open University is one of only six 5* rated geography research units in the UK and has an internationally recognised reputation for research in critical human geography. We are an important part of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Open University. If you are interested in doing a PhD in Geography in a social science focused department then we may well be the place for you to study. The discipline consists of a lively and highly research active group of academic staff, research students and post-doctoral fellows based on campus in Milton Keynes.
Research within Geography at The Open University is strong in a number of key areas. Our work is at the cutting edge of debates in:
· environmental governance and sustainability
· the politics of culture
· materiality, spatiality and non-human geographies
· society, space and power
We especially welcome applications from students who see their work fitting into one or more of these categories.
The Open University campus in Milton Keynes is the base for over 200 research students and 750 academic and research staff. You will normally be expected to live in the Milton Keynes area and use the University's research facilities.
You should have a good BA or BSc (Hons) degree. You are asked to provide a project proposal with your application.
