Funding opportunities for PhD research in geography at Queen Mary,
University of London.
The Department of Geography at Queen Mary, University of London invites
applications from suitably qualified students for the following
Studentships to cover maintenance and fees for full time study on a PhD
programme. Applications must be received by 1st April. Studentships will
be competitively awarded to those selected from shortlisted candidates.
Up to 4 ESRC quota studentships for research in human geography may be
awarded in 2006, covering fees and maintenance for full time study for
suitably qualified British students who qualify for ESRC residency
requirements. These may be either for '1+3 year mode' or '3 year mode'.
Students considered for 1+3 year mode studentships must have attained,
or be likely to achieve, graduation with at least a 2:1 result in a
relevant Bachelors level university degree. The funding covers fees and
maintenance for a compulsory first year Masters training programme in
one of our ESRC recognized courses: either Globalisation and Development
or Cities and Cultures, followed by a 3 year PhD programme. (see the

details on these masters courses)
Students who have already completed a Masters programme which is ESRC
recognized may alternatively apply for +3 mode (to support 3 year full
time PhD research).
The Department also invites applications from suitably qualified
students for 3 QMUL funded 3-year studentships for full time PhD
research in either human or physical geography. Applicants must have at
least the equivalent of a first degree at 2:1 level, and/or a a Masters
qualification in a relevant subject. Non-British nationals and those who
normally reside outside Britain may apply for these studentships.
