I'm guessing that, in essence, if payment is withdrawn/deducted, then
marks/marking may well be 'lost' until such time as payment is
reimbursed...?

Nottingham Trent University have sent a letter to all Union members
asking them to state if they are following the action short of a strike.
The letter is about a page in length. I attach the important sections (I
quote)

"If staff are not willing to carry out all of their duties, the
University may need to take a decision to treat attendance at work as
voluntary.  In these circumstances the University would not be obliged
to pay such staff for any work they undertake"

"The University believes that the vast majority of its staff will not
wish to pursue partial performance as a means of action, and as such is
seeking confirmation from all academic colleagues that this is the
case....... In addition, staff who choose to participate, will have to
consider the potential adverse impact on their pension and other related
benefits........"

There has been no mention of any specific figures or reductions (as far
as I am aware) just this threat of (what is in essence) a lockout.

Colleagues at Bath Spa University were threatened with a 20% blanket
deduction for 'partial performance' during ASS (Action Short of a
Strike). NATFHE met with management and they have agreed to postpone
this until 'real damage' gets done. What this constitutes, we don't
know. 

The fact we're all getting different figures (or, more sensibly, no
figures at all) thrown at us indicates that there is no real national
line on this, but that they are each making up arbitrary figures that
will be very difficult to defend in court, should they ever pursue this
hard line.

Forum members and union members in UK universities may find the figures
for Vice-Chancellors' pay rises (to be published tomorrow in Times
Higher) of interest. You can already see the list of individual VC
salaries and their respective increases over both the last 12 months and
the last three years at:

Collectively, they have awarded themselves 25% increases over the last
three years. They haven't made us any offer at all yet.

We, at London Metropolitan University, have received a letter from Human

Resources, on behalf of University management which claims 100% of our 
pay will be docked, if we participate in continuous industrial action. 
(hasty and draconian? Yes, and severly intimidatory.)

Has there been any detailed explanation of how this percentage is
calculated, justified, and what it relates to specifically?! No.

We have been advised by NATHFE that this is in no way legal (as yes, 
they would have to make a case for how this is calculated) but that did 
not stop them docking 60% (negotiated to 40%) of one months' pay in the 
London Met industrial dispute 6 months ago (which again was legally 
dubious). Employment tribunals continue...
However, the dispute was swiftly settled after this, on favourable terms

for the Union, so all is not lost...

Pay for London Met employees for 7th march strike will be deducted at 
1/260th.
