Dear all,
NB please reply to this either to the list or to my new email address on
[log in to unmask] - which I will be accessing from early in
May, before I start my new post at Plymouth University 5th June. meantime I
will be on a break between posts from the end of this week until 5th June.
A sub-group of people who attended the Exeter conference last year agreed
to put together a proposal
for a community psychology section within the British Psychological Society
in the hope that this will
raise the profile of community psychology within the UK. My part in this is
to put together a small
section on commun ity psychology in practice, and I'd be very grateful if
anyone who is willing to do so
could let me have a very brief summary of particular projects or ongoing
work that you have recently
done or are currently doing that fits within your own definition of
community psychology .There will be
a separate section on research so don't give me info re projects that are
entirely research based though
of course there will inevitably be overlap on this.
If possible I'd like to know the following, ideally under these headings
and just a sentence or two
maximum for each:
1)Who is doing the work (name if you wish; , backgrounds of people actively
involved eg community
members/ particular professionals; place)
2) Setting for the work eg community development, health, clinical,
educational, social care, housing
etc etc (NB I'm especially keen to receive info on non-clinical work since
as a clinical psychologist
myself I probably already have too manay examples in that field)
3) Purposes/ intentions/ aims of the work
4) brief details of what you've done/ tools or approaches used
5) any evaluation/ outcomes/ further actions planned
6) sources of any funding received for the work , if any, or for potential
follow up
7) anything else you feel important to describe the work or to convey its
particular qualities/
characteristics.
I won't necessarily include all that i get - it would be nice to have a
broad range of examples covering
different fields, different people ( including students/ trainees and
community members) and different
approaches to community psychology eg preventive work; public health
promotion, community
development; community led initiatives; mutual learning; giving psychology
away; challenging
inequalities etc etc.
Thanks all - please either reply via the discussion list if you are happy
to share with others or to me
direct . I will do the work
on collating this during May after i get back, and will share the summary
with you on the list.
