Applications are invited for a PhD studentship in the
Department of Childhood and Primary Studies, examining
the creative learning and student perspectives of a
group of bilingual pupils from refugee families in
Glasgow secondary schools. The project will build on
the Scottish research for the CLASP project which
examined teachers' and students' strategies for
developing creative learning among bilingual pupils
from refugee families in primary schools.

The aim of this research is:
- to investigate how secondary schools utilise
participative pedagogies for bilingual pupils
- the perspectives of pupils from refugee families on
school programmes for citizenship and inclusion
- the Social Capital developed among pupils from
refugee families by secondary school pedagogy.
The studentship is for three years and has an
approximate annual value of £8,000 plus fees, with a
starting date aimed for October 2006. All applicants
should hold at least a good honours degree (2:1 or
above) with a substantial education and/or relevant
social science component. Applicants should send their
CV with a covering letter to the address below. In the
letter you must explain why you want to do a PhD, and
how your background prepares you for work in this
area. Please also include the names of two academic
referees.
