News to me (tho I don't claim to be an expert). On the other hand, he
did write the Areopagitica, the first, as far as I know, defense of
freedom of the press and an attack on the practice of censorship.
Not so long ago it was required reading in most schools.
The problem with Milton for most contemporary readers is our limited
ability to read Baroque poetry and our limited knowledge of history.
Most of us are willing to dope out a short poem. Paradise Lost is
another matter.
