[EMS-NEWS]
I've just taken delivery of 4 x M-Audio Microtrack 24/96 stereo
digital recorders for use by undergraduate and postgraduate students
based in the EMS.
They will be available for use from the middle of next week***.
These are direct replacements for the various Walkman-style DATs and
Minidisc recorders that have been in use for the past few years (many
of which are on their last legs, or have failed recently).
The M-Audio Microtrack's can record @ 16 or 24 bit, 44.1 or 48 kHz
(or even at 96kHz), as .WAV or .MP3 audio files. These can
subsequently be 'drag and dropped' from the recorder - when attached
via USB cable to a computer - straight into your audio files folder
ready for use. So, no more hanging around whilst recording in audio
from a DAT or MD. They will work with either the OKM binaural (ear)
mics or the Audio Technica AT822 stereo (hand held) mics.
For more technical info please see -

*** Please note that I am awaiting delivery of 2Gb CompactFlash cards
for each device, which will increase the recording time available to
200 minutes @ 16-bit/44.1kHz stereo WAV format.
These will hopefully be delivered by the middle of next week. The
internal flash cards they are supplied with only allow approx. 40
mins (@ stereo 128kbps .MP3 format) or under 4 mins (@ 16-bit/44.1kHz
stereo .WAV format). I'm also in the process of upgrading the
firmware on each device and security marking them (!).
