Faith Based Organizing in the City
The Department of Geography at Queen Mary University of London is
hosting an event in the new City Centre that addresses the role of Faith
Based Organisations in progressive political coalitions.
Faith Based Organisations have not only become important partners in the
provision of key social services but they have also become active
members in coalitions that seek out long term political change. The
integration of FBOs in urban political coalitions raises a number of
interesting questions that will be addressed at this event:
How do FBOs contribute to these coalitions?
What are the grounds on which solidarity is forged?
What are the potential points of conflict between other members of the
coalition?
What can be gained by working together?
Event Participants:
Dr. Justin Beaumont, Faculty of Spatial Sciences of the University of
Groningen, “Exploring Faith Action on Urban Poverty in the US and
Netherlands”
Professor Jane Wills, Department of Geography, Queen Mary University of
London, “Making solidarity in the City today”
Reverend Angus Ritchie, Director of the Contextual Theological Centre,
will act as Discussant.
