Post Doctoral Researcher

The UCD School of Geography, Planning and Environmental Policy (GPEP) is a
dynamic new research and learning environment based at University College Dublin,
Ireland's largest university. GPEP is the only university school in Ireland specialising in
research and teaching in geography, spatial planning, environmental policy and
economics. It brings together the skills and expertise of the former Departments of
Geography, Regional and Urban Planning and Environmental Studies to address the
multifaceted nature of geography, planning and environmental research and teaching in
the 21st Century.
The School has recently been successful in attracting a substantial research award to
undertake research into rural housing and rural development, and wish to appoint a Post
Doctoral Researcher to work on the project. The research project, funded by the
Environmental Protection Agency, aims to provide a multi-dimensional analysis of rural
housing in Ireland, including issues surrounding community and environmental
sustainability, drivers of rural change, residential preferences, and governance and policy
processes.
The ideal candidate for the post will have completed or will be near to completing a PhD
in an aspect of rural studies or related discipline including rural development, geography,
planning, sociology, politics, economics, agricultural economics, and social sciences. The
ideal candidate should demonstrate an ability and experience in qualitative research
methods, including interviews and focus groups.
The post is for 18 months with a salary of €35,000 p.a.
