Thanks to Mark and Philip for making their points, which I agree with. I
did not find the original particular 'abuse' was so irritating, but the
ensuing reply which was chat between two people known to each other
would clearly have been more appropriate off list.
There is lots of really good information exchange on this list, and I am
reluctant to unsubscribe for that reason. Perhaps as has been suggested
a reminder from the list owners about constructive use would be very
useful, and in particular asking people to consider whether their reply
is really a contribution to the general debate or a point more
appropriately made off-list to an individual or a few individuals.
Thanks
Sara Dunn

Yes I have come pretty close to hitting the "unsubscribe link" also :-(
It has become very irritating recently, I dare say it has forced many
to "unsubscribe"
So..The statement was. Surely, we should be the exemplar of good
practice.
Yes, we should if people wish to advertise their services, perhaps
formation of such a list should take place, then ppl who do not wish to
be "spammed" would not be.
Thanks from
Mark

You can't have it both ways Niki. I confess I don't understand your
argument.
Please can we establish some ground rules? The list is a useful
source
of excellent information and expertise drawn from the educational
community. The downside is that it is sometimes abused or, more
often,
guilty of bad practice.
We suffer a string of replies to discussion strands that don't
contribute anything (or more appropriate offlist), or change subject
and
begin a new discussion under the old heading (more irritating for me -
the volumn of emails nowadays means that I have to be very selective
in
what I read).
Sadly, if a list becomes irritating I suspect many people simply
switch
off (leaving only the consultants to post to each other!). Surely, we
should be the exemplar of good practice.
Submitted with best intentions,
Philip

You are right John,
but Jon Maber is not me or just anybody.
not only he developed a *good* system but he has detailed suggestions
based on people's needs for quality in e-learning. and this is the
definion of the good consultancy. haev you seen waht happened with
Haringey council and the 25m of your and my money because of bad data,
bad consultancy and bad moderation of their systems? I was wondering
why
I had a parking ticket in Haringey displaying that I was parked in a
place I never parked the car.. might be not connected though :P
if somebody like Jon Maber goes for consultancy, I personally would
like
to know.
so oyu are both right but I like knowing it :)
Best regards,
niki
