SOLSTICE 2006 Conference: Enhancing student learning through the
intelligent deployment of technologies
Wednesday 3rd May 2006, Edge Hill, Ormskirk
Call for Participation:
We welcome submissions for papers, presentations, demonstrations and
workshops at the first SOLSTICE Conference - Enhancing student learning
through the intelligent deployment of technologies.
Submissions on programmes, developments, strategies and approaches at any
level and scale are welcome, as are collaborative contributions from
within one institution or across institutions.
Submissions are being called for under the following categories:
Papers - 20 minutes, plus five minutes for questions/ discussion
Short presentations - 20 minutes, plus five minutes for questions/
discussion
Demonstration and/or workshops - 50 minutes
Papers accepted will be compiled and made available at the conference and
to the wider sector through SOLSTICE; contributors will be asked to supply
papers and presentations in advance of the conference date. Following the
conference, and subject to invitation and a peer-reviewed process, a
selection of the conference papers will contribute to an edited
publication.
The submission will include an abstract (up to 250 words maximum) of the
paper/ presentation/ demonstration/ workshop.

Conference Details:
This one day conference will bring together colleagues from within the
higher education sector to share knowledge, expertise and skills relating
to the enhancement of student learning through the intelligent deployment
of technologies.
Keynote speakers:
Jon Peacock, Program Manager, Teaching and Learning Support Services at
the University of Melbourne, will speak about the anthropology and
pedagogy of learning spaces.
Peter Hartley, Professor of Education Development and Head of the Teaching
Quality Enhancement Group at University of Bradford, will give a
communications perspective relating to the conference themes.

Interactivity between people, and with media
Multi-professional approaches to learning technology development
Supporting the diverse needs of learners
Researching and evaluating the impact of technologies on learning
Pathways to information access and use, and to learner engagement

The conference is open to anyone working in Higher and Further Education,
