I agree with your points Tony and wasn't suggesting that all old content
should be dumped, but to use the opportunity to look at what you have and
consider its relevence and purspose before migrating it rather than just
moving moving everything as it stands. As Heather said - an opportunity to
do a large scale tidy up and with it, a bit of a heads up to the tutor to
look at their e-pedagogy.

You can do both: transfer content, and rethink the learning objectives.
Presumably anyone changing VLE is already doing a bit of strategic
thinking, but you should support the staff who took the trouble to use
your former VLE by preserving their work. Which also underwrites the
message that it's not really the wrapper which is important, ie which
VLE, it's the content and activities that delivers.
We did a Learnwise-> Moodle migration, and did do the SCORM importing of
courses, which is fairly quick to do, and gave the teachers their
existing content and an equivalent interface; then have tried to support
them in streamlining and refreshing their course in the new VLE. The
SCORM activity is inflexible, but at least gets their 'reading content'
ready in an accessible place for cleaning up. We also used the Moodle
routine for importing multichoice quizzes from Learnwise, which is much
amore fiddly to do, but again important for staff who worked hard to
create content, and makes it much easier to promote your shiny new VLE
(ie Moodle in most cases) when you can point staff to their old quizzes
etc neatly presented and safe!
