I second this; this Bill is also known as the Henry VIIIth Bill, after that
monarch's disposition to arrogate power to himself. This is the UK
equivalent of the PATRIOT Act, by which George Bush set up Guantanamo,
secret and unauthorised eavesdropping by the NSA and other unmissable gems,
all brought to you by your mate Tone, the man who gave you the 45-minute
WMDs and the need to invade Iraq immediately.
Speaking as someone who's already signed up to the No2ID pledge to refuse to
apply for, give details for or have anything to do with ID cards, I strongly
urge all of you who think this is just mindless lefty panic-creation to
revisit the words of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and ask yourselves, just how bad do
things have to get before I'm prepared to stand up and do something?

Today I read this:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,6-2049791,00.html
so I went and read this:
http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200506/cmbills/111/06111.1-4.html
The Government is trying to pass a Bill that will allow Ministers to alter,
repeal, or create legislation without recourse to Parliament.
If ever our Law protected rights were under threat, it is by this piece of
legislation, indeed, I think this Bill, if passed, is a threat to our very
democracy.
It is extremely important to stop this Bill from getting passed. It would
allow the government to do almost anything it wants to, without needing
consent from Parliament.
I shall be writing to my MP, I urge you all to do the same.
Larch
