Ironically, when a strike in the lumber industry closed the forests, circa
1956, Snyder had to work at a ski lodge in the Oregon mountains as a "chair
lift" operator. Now that fact, to my knowledge, has yet to appear in a book
jacket biography! Ah, the limits to what one will give away in terms of
real life experience. (Speak of demeaning I never mentioned I spent time as
an office file clerk, either! )
