Whilst this whole issue is somewhat possibly 'contentious' in it's subject,
it is interesting to note that Dartmoor Prison was built to house French
POW's. Were they destined as prisoners to labour only in granite quarries?!... or
maybe other things as well? (dare I say something that should be reintroduced
generally today!!! - a bit of proper concentration would do 'some' some
good today... however. Am I right in believing that in Tudor and Elizabethan
times such form of labour was resorted to as a punishment on occasion? - I
believe this to be true, but have no hard evidence to back it up.
