This has been discussed several times, and the problem with a 'standard' is
that it will inevitably not be suitable for some users/some purposes. As
long as your symbol set is clear and well labelled/indexed, it does not
really matter what it is. If users are combining data across two SMR/HER
boundaries, then it is really their lookout to label up the symbols properly
- there will be much more significant differences r/e collection policies,
data sources, validation procedures, etc. than in the symbol sets used.
Guidance as to considerations for selecting symbol sets (and perhaps
examples) would be fine, but not a national standard please.

Hi All
Does anyone know of any symbol conventions for representing HER information
on GIS? We now have a number of data sets, both points and polygons which
we can change the appearance of easily. At the moment we have HER centre
points, HER polygons, Event centre points, Event Polygons and EH scheduled
monument data. Now that we have the colourful Mastermap product from the
OS some of our layers are looking a little indistinct.
If there isn't a standard symbology should there be one?
