Talk about penetration pricing / loss-leading:
from the news this morning:
Valentine’s cards on a budget 13/02/2006 08:17:00
Asda has launched what it claims to be the cheapest Valentine’s Day card on
the market – priced at 8p.
The cards have been launched as part of Asda’s Smart Price range. A
spokesman for Asda said: “Romance isn’t dead. It’s just being done on a
shoestring.”

My wife would slap me round the head with a wet kipper if i tried to give
her an 8p card
Actually, I suspect Asda is still making a decent margin - even at 8p
