Lauri was a pioneer in advocating for the inclusion of people with
disabilities in all aspects of building assets. Unfortunately, Lauri passed
away on July 5th, 2005 before she was able to realize her dream of
homeownership. It is in her memory that we dedicate this issue and the
continuing work to promote full inclusion of people with disabilities in
asset building programs.

State taxes can easily be forgotten. However, tax expert Steven Mendelsohn
provides valuable information on how people with disabilities can take
advantage of State tax law; as well as areas where individuals and tax
preparers need to pay close attention.
3rd Annual IDA Program Survey
There is still time to fill out the 2005 IDA Program Survey. If you are
currently operating and IDA Program and have not filled out the survey,
please do so now. The directory of IDA Programs, provided by CFED,
represents the most comprehensive list of existing programs and is crucial
to future of the asset building field.

As a woman with a disability, Cheri Freeman recognizes how hard it is to
make ends meet. To help, she is volunteering her time and expertise as a tax
preparer at the free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site at the
Independent Living Resource Center in Wichita, KS.

World Institute on Disability (WID) is a non-profit public policy center
dedicated to the promotion of independence and full inclusion in society of
people with disabilities.
