Dear All,
Usual apologies to those ineligible for these schemes and for the
promotional tone ...
I'm pleased to announce that there is a wide range of funding schemes for
students interested in undertaking Masters programmes or PhD research at
Royal Holloway, University of London. You can find full details of the
various opportunities at:
http://www.gg.rhul.ac.uk/news/Funding.html
http://www.gg.rhul.ac.uk/news/funding-details.html
In summary, we have:
* two guaranteed ESRC quota awards for this year (for Masters and PhD "1+3"
or PhD alone "+3");
* nominations to make for ESRC and AHRC competition awards
* 4 College studentships for PhD places
* Additional studentships for each of our Masters programmes.
The Department also has a number of applications for collaborative PhD
placements "CASE awards" pending. There are also various schemes for
physical geographers and quaternary scientists.
There is a deadline of 31st March for applicants who wish to be considered
for Research Council schemes, but it is best to contact us as soon as
possible.
The Department has other research strengths in Development and
Sustainability, but I'm particularly interested in students considering the
MA in Cultural Geography, which has now been running very successfully for
over a decade. We have four new human geography staff joining us for
2006-7 (Luiza Bialasiewicz , Tim Cresswell, Mustafa Dikeç and Claudio
Minca). These appointments will build on our existing specialisms in
cultural geography, historical geography and geopolitics, but will also
extend the Department's interests to include new emphases on European
identities, mobility, the politics of immigration, and tourism.
Contact details are on the website for the full range of programmes offered,
but please contact me, David Gilbert, if you are interested in the MA in
Cultural Geography, or Phil Crang ([log in to unmask]) if you want to talk
about PhD research in cultural, social, political or historical geography in
the Department.
