*Call for expressions of interest in membership of the ALT Research
Committee*

ALT is forming a new Research Committee, which I will chair.
A core membership has been established:
Dr Allison Littlejohn Professor of Learning Technology at the
University of Dundee
Dr John Cook Vice Chair, President of ALT, and Manager of the Reusable
Learning Objects Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning
Dr Mike Keppell Head, Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology at
the Hong Kong Institute of Education, and Australasian Society for
Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education (ASCILITE)
Dr Mike Sharples Professor of Learning Sciences, and Director of the
Nottingham University's Learning Sciences Research Institute
Dr Robin Mason Chair, and Professor of Educational Technology at the
Open Universitys Institute of Educational Technology
Dr Vanessa Pittard Director of Evidence and Evaluation, British
Educational and Communications Technology Agency (Becta)
We are looking to fill a further 6 places on the committee by open call.
The initial remit of the committee will be to:
review and develop the ALT Learning Technology Research Strategy

advise ALT on research related events and workshops, including the
research strand of the annual Spring Conference, from 2007 onwards;
draft responses to research-related consultations for examples of
previous responses please see http://www.alt.ac.uk/documents.html;
advise ALT on research-related collaborations.
The committee will be convened for around 2 hours twice per year, and
for a ~2 hour telephone conference once per year. We currently intend
the first face to face meetings to be in early June and in mid-October
2006, in a reasonably central location, probably not London.
If you are interested in serving on the committee (for a maximum initial
term of 3 years) please send an expression of interest as an email,
rather than as an attachment, to Seb Schmoller, Executive Secretary of
ALT ([log in to unmask]), by no later than 17.00 GMT on Friday
