I see by your 'smiley' emoticon that perhaps you are being deliberatly provocative in a good natured way....? Anyway, I just don't see how you can call them 'charlatans' or 'cranks'? So Spare could draw, great - Gardner and La Vey did other things, things which a lot of people find interesting - see their published works for examples. I think - in the realm of "the occult" that 'charlatanism' seems to be *very prevalent*.. but it doesn't mean that there is absolutely no substance to supposed "charlatans'" work..
I think it really is a matter of taste - I mean no one, IMO has "the completel goods" on the Divine - and what are such "goods' anyway....?
