Hello everyone
I researched and programmed an event for Arts Council England in 2001 which
brought together practitioners, mostly UK based, who had undertaken an
artist residency in a business context - a very specific kind of engagement.
These ranged from long-term work formally structured within an organization
such as Interval Research Corporation, to short term placements in media,
pharmaceutical and R&D contexts. The event was called 'Ways of Working:
Placing Artists in Business Contexts'. I also produced a CD-ROM of this
title, with video presentations by speakers and additional essays (2002),
which is probably still available from the Arts Council's Interdisciplinary
Arts Department.
Another thing to remember is that there is not one single, unified art world
but rather a range of traditions and approaches, within which individual
artists, or groups, develop new projects and works. These traditions include
live art, public art, community art, and what is currently called - rather
unhappily - 'socially engaged art', as well as visual art.
