>>I'd speculate that La Vey was banking on his readers not being Enochian
experts in the slightest. Do you think however, that inaccurately translated
words *can* possibly have an effect on the reciter though?<<
I'm going to bow out of this question - the term "effect" is rather vague, and I'm not familiar enough with Enochian myself to answer anyway.
>>But - now this
reflects my utter lack of knowledge on Enochian.. How do we know that an
Enochian word means "heaven"? Is it because Kelly and Dee said so? You've
mentioned that Enochian words do mean something, but forgive my lack of
knowledge on the subject, but how do we know that?<<
The original printed source for our understanding of Dee's system is Casaubon's A TRUE AND FAITHFUL RELATION OF WHAT PASSED FOR MANY YEARS BETWEEN DR. JOHN DEE AND SOME SPIRITS (1659). In a series of scrying sessions, Dee transcribes Enochian words (often written both backwards, as originally transmitted, and forward), each one listed with its English meaning.

Hi there Dan,
>>For Enochian (as far as I know), there may not be undisputed answers for
some questions, but you can definitely tell when someone's got it wrong. For
example, LaVey's efforts to "translate" the Enochian language into a Satanic
idiom renders the word for Heaven as Hell, but only sometimes. We can thus
say that the basis for LaVey's change is questionable when examined in light
of Enochian magic.<<
