sorry about multiple postings:
2006 / 2007 MIT Postdoctoral Fellowship in Comparative Media Studies
The MIT Program in Comparative Media Studies is pleased to announce a
postdoctoral teaching-research fellowship for non-tenured scholars and
teachers in media studies. The fellowship is designed to encourage the
academic growth of promising media studies scholars with recent Ph.D.
degrees.
The appointment is for the one-year period beginning July 2006, with a
stipend of $40,000. While in residence at MIT, the postdoctoral fellow
holds program affiliation in CMS with limited duties in ongoing CMS
research programs and teaching, as well as the opportunity to pursue his
or her own scholarly work. The postdoctoral fellowship is available in
one or more of three areas of specialization.
Areas of Specialization
(1) Youth, Children and Media
(2) Popular Culture and Informal Education
(3) Games and Learning
Qualifications
We anticipate that the appointment will be a recent Ph.D. from a major
university with a background in media studies, media production, and/or
media education. Applicants should be able to (1) teach one or more
courses at the graduate or undergraduate level related to their core
areas of research and (2) assist in the management and ongoing
operations of CMS research project groups which deal with games,
learning, and new media literacies. Women and minorities are especially
encouraged to apply.
Eligibility
You must have received the Ph.D. degree after September 2000.
Applicants who will receive the Ph.D. degree by June 30, 2006 are
eligible to apply. Such applicants must include a letter of confirmation
(see below).
Application Procedure
To apply, please prepare a letter of application, specifying why you
wish to come to MIT and which area of specialization you are interested
in applying for. Include the following materials, which should be
postmarked on or before February 10, 2006:
1. A curriculum vitae.
2. A detailed statement of current research interests (1,000-3,000
words) that clearly outlines the research you will undertake during the
term of the fellowship.
3. One writing sample (no longer than 35 pages).
4. A two- to four-page statement of teaching interests and two course
proposals (subject area, brief syllabus, proposed methods) for seminars
5. Three letters of recommendation (recommendations may be those
included in your placement dossier).
If you do not have the Ph.D. in hand at the time of application, a
letter of confirmation must be received from your committee chair or
department stating that you will have the Ph.D. degree before the term
of the fellowship begins on July 1, 2006.
Application Deadline and Notification of Awards
All application materials (including letters of recommendation) must be
postmarked on or before February 10, 2006. Faxed applications will not
be accepted. Only fully completed formal applications will be
considered. It is your responsibility to ensure that all documentation
is complete and that referees submit their letters of recommendation to
the following address:
