Dear List Members,
I recently published two new articles on social policy that you may find
useful. Because these articles are not published in social policy
journals, I thought it would be a good idea to let you know about them:
Daniel Béland and André Lecours (2006), "Sub-State Nationalism and the
Welfare State: Québec and Canadian Federalism," Nations and Nationalism, 12
(1): 77-96.
Daniel Béland and Alex Waddan (2006), "The Social Policies Presidents
Make: Pre-Emptive Leadership under Nixon and Clinton," Political Studies,
54(1): 65-83.
These two articles are available here:

Yet, please contact me in order to get the published version of the
Political Studies article: [log in to unmask]
Finally, I would like to mention a recent book chapter on the interaction
between ideas, interests and institutions in policy-making that many
students of social policy could find interesting. The chapter bridges
several major streams of social science and policy literature, including
historical institutionalism (Pierson, Skocpol) and Pierre Bourdieu's field
theory:
Daniel Béland (2005), "Ideas, Interests, and Institutions: Historical
Institutionalism Revisited" in André Lecours (ed.), New Institutionalism:
Theory and Analysis, Toronto, University of Toronto Press: 29-50.
I can send you a copy of this chapter upon request.
Sincerely yours,
Daniel Béland
