To start the series we will begin with a roundtable discussion of the current
state of knowledge as reflected in some key reports published this year: UNDP
Human Development, World Bank World Development, UNDESA Economic and Social
Development, UNRISD report Gender Equality: Striving for Justice in an Unequal
World. This round table will be followed by three more specific papers, one
addressing the comparative extent of gender wage inequality, followed by two
papers which explore how some of these inequalities are experienced and how
workers are organising to redress some of the adverse effects of inequality.
People contributing to the roundtable discussion include Diane Elson, Ruth
Pearson, Jo Morris and Jane Parpart
Confirmed papers include:
Wendy Sigle-Rushton - Motherhood and Women's Earnings in Anglo-American,
Continental European, and Nordic Countries
Wendy Larner: Theorising Globalisation from the New Zealand Designer Fashion
Industry
We are hoping to get someone to speak about how workers are organising to
redress some of the adverse effects of inequality
The seminar series has been coordinated by Diane Perrons (LSE), Diane Elson
(Essex), Majella Kilkey (Hull), Linda McDowell (Oxford) and Ruth Pearson
(Leeds); Seminar administrator Hazel Johnstone.
