The copyright on Kipling's works that were published
in his lifetime expires at midnight 31 December 2006.
This will include the stories in "Plain Tales from the
Hills".
For material published for the first time after his
death (including manuscript material), the copyright
expires at the end of the 70th year after first
publication. As a concrete example, the text of
"Scylla and Charybdis" which was first published in
the Kipling Journal of March 2004 will come out of
copyright at midnight on 31 December 2074.
