The single cylinder vertical winding engine at Beamish North of England Open
Air Museum is dated 1855 and was in use until 1962 at Chop Hill Pit,
Beamish. Subsequently it was moved about half-a-mile to its present site
within the Museum where it was working in steam for most of 2005, although
not running cages in a shaft.
