Dear List
Advertising has its place, and as far as I’m concerned the
Mining History Discussion board is NOT the place for it, be it mining
related or not. Mike, this is not a personal attack on yourself, but, a
general observation on my part. I understand ‘advertising’ raised its ugly
head a while back. Where ever you go, out of your house, web sites etc it’s
full of advertising. My personal opinion is that advertising has its place
such as Ebay where Mike you do advertise, and that is acceptable as it’s an
on-line auction. This discussion board as far as I’m concerned is not an on-
line auction. I hope that Peter will take this matter up as I’m not the
only one who is fed up with advertising on this constructive forum.
Regarding Mike’s statement…”I work hard for mining history such as
organising this year’s namho conference to which I will not have a book
stand or make any profits from. Will you be coming along - what will you be
putting into it?” My answer is NOTHING. The reason why my answer is nothing
is because of the lack of support from member clubs in the South West. I
tried to organise the 2006 NAMHO conference for Devon, but, the local
member clubs would not put themselves out to assist including members of
the club that would have hosted it. I put together a draft plan and venue
including accommodation etc and sent that to Peter. So once again Mike my
answer to your question “What will I be putting into it?” is still nothing -
this year at least.
