Re. the recent postings about Bushell and Lundy: a few years ago I visited Lundy and saw the features described as 'earthquakes' - a series of long trench-like openings at surface. In guidebooks they are alleged to be the results of the Lisbon earthquake of 1755. To me they seemed very like the remains of old lodeback workings. Has anyone who know more about mining archaeology than me ever had a look at the island?

Having visited the "earthquake" many years ago we assuned these are in fact natural slip-rifts ("gulls") which admittedly would be similar to lode workings. A stream sinks into them at one point, which may not reappear above beach level, indicating they are of very considerable depth. These require full investigation.
