italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Dear Colleagues,
My apologies for cross-posting.
I have been trying to determine the identity of Federicus Foxius, listed as member of a Venetian
academy in a 1602 document. I have yet to find anything on the internet (including many
international library databases and EEBO), in the DNB (however a 1970s edition), in other national
biographies, or in the indices of the Calendar of State Papers, of the Relazioni di A.V., or of
seventeenth-century histories. I tried various spellings (Fosso/Fossi or Volpe/i in Italian, Foix/
Fois/de Foix in French, equivalents of these in Spanish, German, Latin). The name may simply be
mistaken (I have found a Francis and, of course, John). I would gladly accept suggestions for
further searches, including names of 16th- and 17th- c. history listservs.
I am also looking for secondary source information (i.e. beyond his 17th- and 18th-c. titles) on the
Portughese translator, Sebastiano De Ucedo. Antonio Tabucchi apparently wrote something on
him decades ago, but I haven't been able to find where.
With many thanks for your help,
Nina Cannizzaro
