A panel discussion and debate on the future expansion of the European
Union to the East will take place at UCL on 10 January 2006 at 6pm. 'The
Expansion of the European Union to the East: Risks and Advantages of the
Possible Enlargement to Turkey and the Ukraine and the changing role of
Germany and the old Europe' is a free event open to the public.
The speakers, who include the Turkish ambassador to the UK, His
Excellency Mr Akin Alptuna and the Deputy Ambassador of Germany, Mr Hans
Henning Blomeyer-Bartenstein, will discuss Germany's position as one of
the founding members of the EU at a time when the country is engaging in
considerable public debate about the relative merits and risks of
further EU expansion.
