CALL FOR PAPERS
THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON THE ARTS IN SOCIETY
15-18 August 2006, Edinburgh UK
http://www.Arts-Conference.com
The Centre for Festival and Event Management (CFEM), Napier University
Business School is one of the co-sponsors of the International
Conference on the Arts in Society to be held from 15-18 August 2006 at
Edinburgh University, Scotland. The 'Arts Conference' is being held to
coincide with the various arts festivals held in Edinburgh during the
month of August and is intended to explore critical themes related to
the arts today. The organising theme for the Conference is Arts of
Engagement and this is intended to reflect a broad way to think about
how to link interdisciplinary forms of creative expression with social
action and meanings. Indeed, on the world stage, global systems of
exchange and production are calling old structures into question, and
forcing a re-evaluation of art world creations-hybridized, appropriated,
travelled. Several parallel sessions have been devised in keeping with
this broad theme:
* Festivals
* Meaning and representation
* Arts Agendas
* Supporting the Arts
* Art in Communities
* Constructing Art Worlds
* Audiences
* Arts Education
* Analysing Artforms
* Art and Human Rights
You are invited to respond to the conference call for papers and
presentations in any of the mentioned streams. Presenters may choose to
submit written papers for publication before or after the conference in
the refereed International Journal of the Arts in Society, a new journal
commencing publication in 2006. If you are unable to attend the
Conference in person, virtual registrations are also available which
allow you to submit a paper for review and possible publication in the
journal, and provide you with access to the electronic version of the
conference proceedings.
The CFEM is organizing a plenary session under the festival theme titled
The Postmodern Festival: at The Cross Roads Between The Local And The
Global? to which all conference participants are especially invited.
This session is to be held in the afternoon of 17 August 2006.
Full details of the conference, including an online call for
presentations form, are to be found at the conference website
http://www.Arts-Conference.com <http://www.arts-conference.com/>
.Innovative presentation formats as well as academic papers are
encouraged. The call for proposals (a title and short abstract) closes
on 28 February 2006.
We hope that you will be able to join us in Edinburgh in August!
