Wellington on 2nd December 2005, at Te Papa.
One month after the release of BEAUTY interest in the film is still high.
Over 400 people have seen the film in its first month, four upcoming
confirmed screenings at different events; purchase by a TV Channel and
current negotiations on further screenings indicate that BEAUTY is indeed a
short film that just has to be seen. So many requests have come in that this

BEAUTY takes an ordinary, everyday scenario of dreaming to achieve or do
something but are then told; you're too heavy; you don't have the right
look; and on and on. Through the medium of dance and movement BEAUTY
captures a compelling and moving semi-biographical tale of a woman who
dreams of becoming a dancer but is told she cannot.
"We wanted to make an Art film that showed how attitudes can hinder or
encourage the fulfilment of dreams and aspirations." says Bronwyn Hayward,
Producer. We chose the medium of dance to tell that story as I wanted to
dance, was told disabled people don't dance; Later I became aware that it
was the choreographic requirements that were preventing me from dancing and
not my disability; I now am an award winning dancer, and base my
choreography around my talents."
The idea upon which BEAUTY is based arose in March 2005 and ended on 3rd
November 2005. Over those eight months a team of over 100 people have been
involved in creating a high quality exceptional short film shot on a number
of locations around Wellington, New Zealand.
Unforgettable aerial dance sequences by Bronwyn Hayward, innovative work by
debut director Damian Tossman, powerful imagery by Director of Photography
David Paul and an original soundtrack by Contemporary Dance Composer Eden
Mulholland, makes BEAUTY a sensory feast that is truly inspirational and
compelling viewing for audiences of all ages.
