Research Post: Requirements Engineering and Work-Based Learning
Centre for HCI Design
City University, London
___________________________________________________
The EU-funded APOSDLE Integrated Project aims to enhance knowledge
worker productivity by supporting informal learning activities in the
context of knowledge workers' everyday work processes and within
their work environments. The key distinction of the APOSDLE approach,
as compared to more traditional (e)Learning approaches is that
APOSDLE will provide integrated support for three roles a knowledge
worker fulfills at the professional workplace: the roles of learner,
expert, and worker. Learning support will be provided in the work
environment by exploiting synergies between learning and knowledge
management based on reuse of content not originally intended for
learning. Outcomes will include in-depth understanding of workplace
learning from which a method and reference architecture to support of
workplace learning within computational environments will be created.
Deliverables will include domain-specific APOSDLE environments
embedded into application partner organizations that will be used to
demonstrate and evaluate the benefits of seamless integration of
learning and working in the professional workplace. One such work
domain is requirements engineering. Key partners include the
Universities of Twente and Graz, EADS, SAP, and Austria's National
Knowledge Competence Centre.
The Centre for Human-Computer Interaction Design will lead and
participate in research in 2 key areas:
1. Establishing and specifying the requirements for complex
work-based learning environments, treating them as socio-technical
systems that are designed to enable workers to achieve selected
learning goals;
2. Modelling the requirements engineering domain as a work-based
learning domain, to enable APOSDLE prototypes to deliver work-based
learning to requirements engineers based on extensive knowledge and
resources available to City University.
We are looking for a researcher capable of establishing the
requirements for a complex work-based learning system within a
creative, research-led project. We are also looking for a researcher
with strong research engineering knowledge, capable of mapping and
modelling requirements processes, problems and solutions as a basis
for work-based learning. Knowledge of e-learning and e-learning
environments is also desirable. Good academic presentation skills are
also sought.
Although this post is full-time, we will welcome applications from
candidates who wish to work flexible or part-time hours. In return,
we offer a comprehensive package of in-house staff training and
development, and benefits that include a final salary pension scheme.
Further particulars and an application form can be downloaded from
www.city.ac.uk/hr/jobs. Alternatively contact the Recruitment Team,
HR Department, City University, Northampton Square, London, EC1V OHB,
